If you are an animal enthusiast visiting Malindi, this place has got you covered.  The Falconry of Kenya is an exciting animal park that hosts a diverse collection of animals. The park offers a thrilling, close-range view of the animals for visitors. Some of the animals hosted in the park include; crocodiles, snakes, monitor lizards, falcons, eagles, tortoises, owls and goshawks. Most of these animals are rescued and rehabilitated at the park in readiness for return to the wild.

Location

The park is located approximately 400metres off the Lamu Road. It neighbors the famous Malindi Complex building that hosts many offices. The park is easily accessible both on foot and via vehicle.

What’s so special about the park?

Although not large in size, the zoo hosts quite a good number and variety of animals. A visit to the place will see you come face to face with fierce-looking crocodiles as they bask in their wall enclosures.  The wide variety of snakes paraded in several glass chambers will surely fascinate you. If you are the adventurous type, you get to even hold the snakes- at the guidance of the guide, of course.  You also get to see beautiful monitor lizards of various sizes and types.

The park derives its name from the many falcons positioned in the open in various spots of the park. The birds of prey are also trained to perform flight stunts for visitors. You get to take part in the stunts if you wish, but you have to wear protective gloves for safety against the sharp talons of the birds. Petting the owls is one of my favourite things to do at the park- so adorable.

The park features several tortoises of various sizes. The most thrilling sight is that of the huge, 200-year-old tortoise. You get to feed this gentle giant at your own wish.

You are bound to learn a lot about animals from the amazingly knowledgeable guides. Their passion for the animals effortlessly comes out through their detailed explanation of the area.

Charges

The park charges 200 Kenya shillings, equivalent to 2$. This covers for both the entry and a guided tour of the zoo. The park also has beautiful artifacts and ornaments made of wood that one can buy. Additionally, there is a counter that sells liqour and other drinks for visitors.

Visiting Hours

The park opens at 9.00am and closes at 5.30pm. You can therefore visit any time during the day. It also doesn’t receive a lot of visitors daily, which means you enjoy the whole experience better.

Although some visitors have claimed that the park is not well maintained, it is still worth a visit. You get to witness the eye-catching uniqueness of these lovely animals at eyeshot distance. The prices are also very friendly for both locals and foreign tourists. They have an amazing staff that will stop at nothing to make sure visitors are as comfortable and satisfied as possible. It is still a must-visit spot when in Malindi.
