The spalkling new look of the Malindi Sea Front Park has renewed the excitement in “Little Italy”. This section of the Buntwani Beach has become too beautiful not to notice. This comes after a facelift project that saw the area undergo massive infrastructural changes aimed at boosting the appearance of the town. Having being a tourism giant once in the past, Malindi has had a share of dull days in the recent past. However, projects like the Sea Front one, will surely bring back the lost glory of this amazing town. The county government allocated 75 million shillings to help set up something magical along the beach.
So far, the park is working magic, despite not being
officially opened. The project is also not fully complete, although a good
percentage of it is done. Locals are already streaming in on a daily basis to
enjoy the cool breeze while at the same time enjoying the therapeutic view of
the shoreline.
What is Featured in the Project?
The project encompasses a lot of things, some of which whose
construction is et to begin. The project is also not a reserve of the Buntwani
Beach only, as it will cover a distance of up to 9 kilometres. The coastal
stretch from Buntwani Beach to the Sabaki area will see major changes aimed at
revitalizing the tourism sector.
Firstly, the project aims to bring people together through
sport activites. The Sea Front park features two football stadiums, with one
reserved for beach soccer. It is also set to have two volleyball courts once
complete. Additionally, the park will have fishing sports activites and golf
courses. The football fields are already in place, although they have not begun
being used officially. These activities are set to boost tourim in Malindi.
The park also features dining area. Currently, a restaurant is already operational and is
becoming a popular destination for Swahili Cuisine among locals. It is now
common to see residents streaming in to the place, especially in the evening,
to not only enjoy tantalizing food, but also the cool breeze and view of the
ocean.
A tourist information centre and an administation centre are
also in place. These beautiful offices will provode visitors with the right
information to be able to navigate not only in the park but also in the town.
There is already a parking space for vehicles visiting the
Malindi Pier and the Sea Front park too. The parking space is set to
accommodate up to 100 vehicles. This will enable easy access to the tourist
destinations around the park. The Beach Front Road is also set to undergo
renovation to improve its quality.
With the renovation of the Vascoda Gama Pillar, the Beach
Front project also aims to renovate the iconic Malindi Pier. The Pier has been
in a dilapidated state, with the protective steel rims falling off due to rust
and also being vandalized by local vagabonds. The concrete has also been
falling off from below, making the pier a possible disaster in waiting. The
renovation will go a great legnth in boosting tourism as it is one of the most
prominent tourist destinations in Malindi, especially during festivities like
Christmas.
Among other things set to grace the park include public
toilets, changing rooms, cycling courses and a playground for children. The
palyground is already in use as children visit the swings and merry-go-rounds
to have fun. There are also sites for hosting concerts at the park.
The park will surely bring back the lost glory of the town.
Even with more yet to come, the park is already working magic in the town,
bringing people from all over just to have a glimpse of the magical scenery.
This is a good sign for a town whose tourism sector was taking a nose dive.
