The Malindi Marine National Park and Reserve is an epitome of Kenya’s rich aquatic beauty. The park was
established in 1968 and covers 6 square miles. It is also part of the 213
square miles stretch of marine life that includes the Watamu Marine Park. The Malindi
Marine Park is recognized by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve. The area is
protected to conserve the biodiversity for sustainable development.
Nicknamed “the Coral
Garden”, the Malindi Marine park lives up to this name. Visitors can enjoy the
charming view of the glamorous sandy beach or sun-bath in the hot sun during
the sunny season. This can be supplemented with a refreshing swim in the
alluring waters.
The park is popular
for its crystal-clear waters that are ideal for snorkeling and diving. This
will bring you one on one with the magical scenes of different species of coral
reefs and magnificent sea life. The park boasts of hosting hundreds of species
of tropical fish, eye-catching lagoons, amazing coral cliffs, extensive mangrove
forests and amazing turtles. Other species include mollusks, birds, crabs,
octopuses and lobsters. This makes the
colorful underworld of the clear waters irresistible.
An exciting boat ride
will see visitors witness the radiant colors of the beautiful waters. On a
lucky day, visitors can spot whales, dolphins and even sharks. The park also
extends to the Mida Creek Mangroove Forest where visitors can enjoy
bird-watching and the famous board-walk.
